Acute Hepatitis and Adenovirus Infection Among Children — Alabama, October 2021–February 2022

The CDC just issued an update on possible cause of severe hepatitis in children and its not linked to COVID infection or vaccination. Adenovirus is being investigated as a potential culprit. Adenovirus is upper respiratory tract virus which can infect children but in some cases, it can cause viral hepatitis. Some of the infected children needed liver transplantation because of liver failure.
